The Throne Of Tone is a tribute to not one, but two extremely sought-after overdrive pedals based on a classic amplifier recording in the late 1960s. Twenty-five years after Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton changed tone chasing forever, a now-classic amp-in-a-box style pedal was launched and set a new standard in transparent amp-like overdrive tones. From that original pedal, a modified, two-sided boutique OD would emerge over a decade later and change the hierarchy of guitar overdrive for good. The original pedals used by artists like John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr, and John Petrucci are known to blend in with any rig, or transform clean tones into completely different tone stacks. Offering these two legendary circuits in one pedal with unprecedented combinations, Throne of Tone delivers all of the tonal bliss of the vintage originals with critical features and controls easily accessible at all times.

Dual Voicings, Unrivaled Combos, Rig-Ready Controls

Throne Of Tone is all about unmatched control and timeless tone. First and foremost, the Throne Of Tone accurately delivers the unique character of both original pedals with boutique gain and drive modifications - on each side! The voicing selector switches between “Blues” (early classics) and “King” (boutique favorite). A gain selector adds the boutique high/low-gain mod, while the drive mode lets each side run as an OD, Distortion, or Boost. Unique to this pedal, each side includes a presence knob for shaping upper mids when tones get muddy. Global voltage doubling increases headroom, while the FX Order Swap instantly changes effect sequence. A top-mounted send/return jack allows inserting pedals or chains between the two sides.

The WA-TOT truly delivers all of the possible options in this “breaking” style of overdrive. The controls encompass both classic vintage/boutique pedal styles, and add external controls that cover many of the most famous modifications by boutique revisions over the years.

Two Voicings, Two Op-Amp Flavors

Like the original pedals, most of the WA-TOT circuit path is the same regardless of “King” or “Blues” voicing, the op-amp ICs set the stage for the nuances and differences. The “King” voice uses the JRC4580 op-amps while the “Blues” setting leverages the tried and true TL072. The character differences are especially noticeable in “Boost” mode. 

Premium Components for Clipping & Power

WA-TOT uses premium clipping diodes to provide cascading distortion across multiple drive modes. The dual switch cap voltage doubler allows the WA-TOT to deliver even higher headroom in boost mode without having to open the pedal up to engage the modification.
